| Arthroscopic Polymer Resurfacing for Osteoarthritis of the Knee |
What is it?
Unfortunately, this procedure is not yet approved by the FDA for use in this country. When it becomes available, it will be intended for use primarily for arthritis involving one compartment of the knee. When approved for US clinical trials, we hope to be one of the early testing sites. In the meantime, we are evaluating candidates and maintaining a database as well as recommending alternative treatments.
Any alternatives?
Currently, there are several alternatives to a total knee replacement which are FDA approved and are being performed in our institution, including: partial knee replacement, meniscus transplants, cartilage cloning, UniSpacer, bony realignment and cartilage autografts. If you would like further information regarding these procedures we would be happy to schedule you for an appointment for a formal consultation, since it is not possible to determine the appropriate treatment without careful evaluation of the patient, X-rays and MRIs.
